Sept Theme

September represents a month of renewal, rebirth and revival because of the warm weather, vibrancy and sprouting flowers. It is also Heritage Month, where we get to celebrate cultural traditions, diversity, languages, values, beliefs and national unity. This day is about embracing our uniqueness, while celebrating unity.

In the last 25 years, South Africa has been lauded for its strong policies in Inclusive education, However, the implementation of these policies remains a gap. We need a system that can adapt, and accommodate all children.

August Theme

The year was 1956, and on 9 August, more than 20 000-strong women matched to the union buildings, resisting pass laws which were being enforced by the then apartheid government.

Children do not arrive at the ECD center as blank slates. They arrive carrying their homes, their streets, their languages, their hunger, their songs, and their stories. Sociology teaches us that learning is not an isolated, cognitive act. It is a social act, shaped by class, culture, language, poverty, family structure, and community (Vygotsky, 1978).
